Masks From Around the World: Collecting masks became more than just buying travel curios, for Garth Dahl. He shows how he discovered the mysterious attraction of masks, and explored their countries of origin. It's a journey about more than just far off places and other faces. Dahl's masks and stories add up to a very positive education: start with masks, then discover the people and spirituality behind them, and how interconnected we are. Masks fascinate us because they show us other faces of humanity, and this book lures us to explore other cultures, through the expressions, signs and symbols of the universal human craft of masks. Dahl relates his life changing experiences of the essential human bonds that unite people around the world. Vivid photographs show why Dahl chose these masks. He offers tips for collectors, and encourages us to rely on our own tastes, not only in distant markets but also in neighborhood stores. This is a diverse collection, lovingly assembled from around the world, and it introduces us to cultural geography. Garth Dahl bought his first mask in Costa Rica in 1989 as a travel souvenir. His mask buying continued across five continents over 15 years, on holidays, business travels and a romance with his Hungarian wife, Agnes. A naturopath, Garth Dahl has broad experience in the field of natural medicine. He also writes children's books and poetry, and collects art in various media. Garth was born and raised on the edge of the Canadian Pacific Rim, Dahl and his family recently moved to Calgary and presently resides at the foot of the Rockies in Western Canada.
